The Night Sky According to Star Trek: Where Empires Exist

September 6, 2016

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Halifax Central Library
5440 Spring Garden Road, Halifax

Klingon EmpireStarfleet cadets, both earthlings and aliens, are invited to attend the Starfleet Academy Astronomy 101 class presented by the eminent Dr. Strangelove II. This will be a holodeck presentation reliving the 50th anniversary of the first episode of Star Trek in Canada, as celebrated in Halifax in 2016. Special guest lecturers include the much decorated Romulan, Commander Toreth, the greatly feared Klingon commander of a bird of prey, Commander Q’LuA and a surprise personage of great importance from the Gamma Quadrant. Dr. Strangelove and his guests will be presenting the night sky as seen from earth. After a quick review of how to find constellations in Earth’s night sky, the guests will show cadets how to find the most significant empires (even the Ferengi Alliance) in earth’s night sky and what interesting deep sky objects can be found near them. Cadets will never view the night sky the same again. Be warned that anything can happen when these former enemies are put together. Audience cosplay encouraged.
